Tips Steal Point from Rockets

The Okanagan Rockets hosted the North Island Silvertips at home at the Capital News Centre this past weekend. The Rockets called up an AP (Affiliated Player) Landen Janz (D) to replace Kaiden Shaupmeyer (D) who was loaned to the Minor Midget Rockets for Saturday’s contest.

The Rockets also welcome back Dante Nunes (D) to their lineup after recovery for a broken hand on October 5th. Kaslo Ferner remained sidelines due to injury.

Game 1 vs North Island Silvertips

Capital News Centre, Rink 2

November 16th, 2019

The Rocket pressed hard in the first but the Silvertips scored first on the power play and lead the game 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

The second period, Rockets applied similar pressure as the first, especially off the rush resulting in a goal from Nathan Gossoo (1G). Gossoo was sprung free with off the tape of returning player Dante Nunes (1A) from his own zone and Brayden Skogstad (1A).

The Silvertips took their second lead of the game just a few minutes into the third scoring on shot that found its way through a few blockers that also screened the Rockets netminder. The Rockets controlled the game out shooting and chancing the Tips but couldn’t seem to get on past the opposing goalie who played well. In the dying minutes of the period Nathan Gossoo (2G) scored his second of the game on a nice assist from line mate Connor Seeley and eventually sending the game to Overtime.

The Silvertips in overtime earned the extra point and the win off a Rocket’s turnover and strong net drive to take game 1 of the weekend.

Game 2 vs North Island Silvertips

November 17th, 2019

The now second place, Rockets look to even the score after the overtime loss the night before. They also welcomed back Kaiden Shaupmeyer (D) from his loan to the Minor Midget Team.

The Tips took the early lead in the game scoring a shorthanded goal on a bobbled pass that Aiden See (1G) jumped on for a breakaway on Angelo Zol. The Rockets didn’t seem to be phased by the Tips goal and answered back jut 2 minutes later on a nice deflection from Connor Seeley (1G, 1A) and went on to scored 2 more goals by Ben Strobel (1G), and Nathan Gossoo (1G, 1A) before closing out the 1st period.

The second period saw the Silvertips claw back early with two goals to tie the game 3-3 but again the Rockets answered back scoring just 36 second later on a steal and nice breakaway tally from Ben Strobel (2G) to give the Rockets the 4-3 leading heading into 2nd intermission.

The third period was all Rockets as they found their offensive stride dominating the play and scoring six more goals. Ben Strobel (3G, 1A) completed his hattrick and Spencer Fleck (1G), Lian Gayfer (2G), Caleb deHoog (1G), and Connor Seeley (2G, 1A) all added 1 or more goals in the period.

The Rockets moved back into first with the 10-4 win and the help of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds winning their match against the Greater Vancouver Canadians. With 12 games into the regular season, The Rockets have earn points in every game and have a record of 10 Wins, 0 Losses, 1 Tie and 1 OT Loss for 22 points in the standings.

The Rockets have another by weekend coming up and will take on the North West Hawks November 30th and December 1st at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna.
