Rockets Fly Through Hawks

The Okanagan Rockets Minor Midgets travelled to Vancouver this past weekend for a pair of games with the host NW Hawks Minor Midget team. The Rockets opened up a 3-0 lead quickly on a pair of goals from Rhett Hamilton and a single from Max Graham. The first ended with the 3-0 lead. The Hawks closed the gap with a pair of second period goals, with an Austin Roest goal sandwiched between the 2 Hawks goal. The Rockets took a 4-2 lead into the third. The Hawks answered early in the third to close the lead to 4-3 but goals by Mason Finley and Max Graham’s second goal of the game finished out the scoring and the Rockets skated to a 6-3 victory, outshooting the Hawks 37-23. Ethan Reynaud was in net for the victory and was solid.

Sundays game was a slower start for the Rockets, with Remy Spooner and Isaak Moore pacing the Rockets to a 2-0 lead after two periods. Mason Finley scored 13 minutes into the third to add to the lead, tipping a point shot from Dain Levesque, and giving the Rockets a bit of breathing room. A flurry of goals in the last two minutes – Hawks scored a PP goal to close to 3-1, then Austin Roest with an empty netter, and Remy Spooner with his second of the game 28 seconds later closed out the scoring, and giving the Rockets a 5-1 win. However the score was not really indicative of the play, as Wilson Maxfield made several key saves throughout the game to keep the Hawks at bay. Rockets outshot the Hawks 31-24 on Sunday.

The Rockets travel to Lethbridge on Thursday to take part in the Logan Boulet Memorial tournament and will be tested by some very strong Alberta Minor Midget teams, including Red Deer, NAX and St Alberts.
