Rocket Stumble in GVC but still earn Split

The Okanagan Minor Midget Rockets travelled to Richmond on the weekend to participate on the league's first Showcase weekend. The Rockets played the hometown Greater Vancouver Canadians, and the Canadians were there to spoil the party for the Rockets, as they headed into the weekend unbeaten in league play. Game one, the Rockets got off to a quick start, with goals from Rhett Hamilton, shorthanded, and Tristan Weill. GVC scored late to close the period out with Rockets leading 2-1. The second period was scoreless, and GVC scored 2 in a five minute stretch in the third. The Rockets, who had been sleepwalking a bit through the second and third, came on furiously in the last 4 minutes, but no luck on their side, and no luck earned to be honest, as they hit two posts, but fell to GVC to lost their first of the year. Wilson Maxfield was in net and took the loss. The Rockets did outshoot GVC 34-25 Sundays game was a wild affair with the Rockets being penalized for 30 minutes in the first 40 minutes, so their PK got quite the workout. Although GVC did score on one PP, the Rockets PK was strong killing off 10 of the 11 penalties... Kailus Green got the scoring started, giving the Rockets a 1-0 lead after one, and Max graham, with a shorty , and Green with a PP goal, gave the Rockets a 3-1 lead after 2. The Rockets were finally allowed to play 5 on 5 for almost all the third and were able to take over the game scoring 4 goals from Nolan Matthews, Carter Schmidt, Austin Roest and Remy Spooner to make the final 7-1. Maxfield was once again in net getting the W, and the Rockets outshot GVC 39-27, a decent feat considering they were shorthanded for much of the game.
